The Lindenwood lacrosse team (3-5) fell in a tight contest on the road to New Hampshire (3-4) by a score of 16-15 on Wednesday afternoon in Durham, N.H.
GAME OVERVIEW
New Hampshire jumped out to a 3-0 lead before
Tatum Bryant put an end to the run off a feed from
Alissa DiGiacinto. The Wildcats scored the next four goals to extend the advantage to 7-1. Lindenwood concluded the quarter in a strong way, netting three of the next four goals, two of which came from
Reese Krieger, cutting the deficit to 8-4 after one.
The Wildcats scored the first two goals of the second quarter to take a 10-4 lead. Just past the halfway point of the frame,
Luci Selander found the back of the net two times in less than a minute to close the gap to 10-6. Both teams traded goals before halftime and Lindenwood trailed 11-7 at the break.
DiGiacinto got the scoring started in the third closing the gap to 11-8. The Wildcats went back up by four with a goal at the 7:26 mark of the frame. Selander netted the final two goals of the quarter to get the Lions within two at 12-10, heading to the fourth.
After New Hampshire scored less than a minute into the fourth, Krieger brought the Lions back within two at 13-11. However, the Wildcats went on a 3-0 run to grow the lead to 16-11. Lindenwood answered back with the next three goals, two of which came from DiGiacinto cutting the deficit to 16-14 with 7:18 to play.
Both defenses turned up the pressure late, keeping the game close.
Taylor Coughlin made a big save with three minutes left to keep the Lions within two. On the next offensive possession, Selander converted a free position attempt to get the Lions within one with 1:26 to play. However, the Wildcats won the ensuing draw control and were able to run out the clock earning the 16-15 win.
