ST. CHARLES, Mo.- The Lindenwood Women's Tennis team (4-4, 1-0 OVC) narrowly fell in their contest against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday by a final score of 4-3. All three of the Lions points came in singles play at the number one, three, and six spots.
At the number two spot in doubles play,
Fabiana Labrador and
Paola Garcia barely fell by a score of 6-4 to EKU's Anastas Cherniakova and Ceylin Ipek. Eastern Kentucky also won at the number one doubles spot by a score of 6-1 over
Michelle Trochez and
Megan Caffin to take the first point of the match.
In singles play, Labrador won at the number one spot by scores of 6-2, 6-3 over EKU's Masha Fedenko, while
Mathilde Humbert won her second straight singles match at the number six spot by scores of 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 to rally for a three set victory over Cherniakova. The third point of the match came at the number three singles spot as Caffin won the opening set 6-4 and won by retirement of her opponent.
Trochez and
Sofija Dunisijevic both went three sets at the number two and five spots of singles play, but both fell in the final set as Trochez was defeated 6-3, 6-0 after taking the first set 7-6, and Dunisijevic forced a winner-take-all third set. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Dunisijevic won the second set 6-2, but fell in the third and final set by a score of 7-5.
The Lions will now resume OVC play for their next match which will take place on Sunday, March 22 at Western Illinois. First serve in Macomb is set for 1 p.m. CT.
