Women's Tennis Sweeps Singles Play At Western Illinois To Improve To 2-0 In The OVC

MACOMB, IL. - The Lindenwood Women's Tennis team (5-4, 2-0 OVC) swept all six singles matches at Western Illinois on Sunday morning to pick up their second OVC win of the 2026 Spring season. WIU picked up the doubles point winning at the number one spot over Megan Caffin and Michelle Trochez by a score of 6-3 and finishing it off at the number three spot with a 6-2 win over Mathilde Humbert and Sofija Dunisijevic

Caffin was the only Lion to win her singles match in straight sets at the number two spot, as she took down WIU's Richardlyne Francois by scores of 6-2, 6-3, while the rest of the team had to dig deep and battle it out in three sets. At the number one spot, Fabiana Labrador won the first set over Mana Fawcett 6-2, but Fawcett responded in the second set with a 6-2 win of her own and forced a third set. Labrador kept her composure and defeated Fawcett 6-3 to pick up her fourth singles win of the season and first in Ohio Valley Conference play. Michelle Trochez and Dunisijevic also added their first OVC singles victory in the match with the Leathernecks, as Dunisijevic dropped the opening set at the number five spot by a score of 6-7 to WIU's Nedezhda Petkova, but rallied for the three set win by winning the second set 6-1 and taking the third set 6-2.

Meanwhile, Trochez took her opening set at the number three spot over Nour Gueblaoui 6-2, but similar to Labrador's match, Gueblaoui forced a third set by winning set two 6-2. In the third and final set, Trochez would take the decisive set by a score of 7-5 to improve her regular season singles record to 3-5. Rounding out the singles wins for Lindenwood was Paola Garcia and Mathilde Humbert at the number four and six spots, with Garcia winning 6-3, 6-7, 6-1, and Humbert taking the final point of the match by defeating WIU's Denver Johnson 6-7, 6-3,6-3.

With the victory over the Leathernecks, the Lions have tied their season win total from a season ago with five, and are off to their best start in conference play in the Division I Era. The Lions will now travel to Nashville, TN on Wednesday afternoon for their next OVC match at Tennessee State. First serve with the Tigers is set for 1 p.m. CT.
