ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood baseball team (10-13, 0-3 OVC) fell by a score of 9-6 in their series finale against Eastern Illinois (13-8, 3-0 OVC) on Sunday afternoon. The Lions led early but were unable to recover after EIU took a two-run lead in the sixth inning.
Charlie Isom-McCall has another solid day at the plate, going 3-4 with a double, three runs scored, and an RBI.
Jake Radosevich led the Lions with three runs batted in while
Ethan Cantareira and
Mathew Graf also drove in one run apiece.
Lindenwood starter
Lucas Niemeyer gave up four runs on four hits with five strikeouts through 5.1 innings on the mound.
How it Happened
Lindenwood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with
Ethan Cantareira tripling to the gap in left center before beating the throw home on a
Jake Radosevich ground ball fielder's choice for the game's opening run.
The Lions extended their lead to two in the bottom of the third as Sam Dricoll walked before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error, which set the table for
Charlie Isom-McCall to drive him in with a base hit through the left side.
Eastern would get one back with a Peyton Wilson solo homer in the fourth before tying the game in the fifth with a Chris Worcester groundout with runners on second and third that allowed Tyler Castro to score.
Lindenwood immediately regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth when
Jake Radosevich singled up the middle to score
Charlie Isom-McCall – who had a base hit of his own earlier in the frame – from second base.
Things went sideways for LU in the sixth, however, with EIU batting around to bring three runs across to gain a 5-3 advantage. The inning was helped along by a throwing error to second base while trying to turn two with the bases loaded and one away.
The Lions got one back in the seventh, as Isom-McCall doubled and stole third before reaching home on a two-out RBI single by
Mathew Graf.
However, after the Panthers added four unanswered runs across their next two at-bats, Lindenwood was unable to sting together enough offense to threaten in the ninth, though they did plate two more runs with a pair of sacrifice fly outs.
