ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Lindenwood Women's Tennis team (6-5, 3-1 OVC) fell to SIUE on Tuesday afternoon at home by a score of 7-0. With the loss, the Lions fall to second place in the OVC with a conference record of 3-1 while the Cougars improve to 3-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference standings and move into first place.
The Cougars started off the match by taking the doubles point with wins at the number one and two spots. SIUE's Margaux Guibal Britt and Stefaniya Anikina won 6-0 at the number one spot over
Fabiana Labrador and
Paola Garcia, and the number two doubles pair of Cydney Rogers and Elena Palioura clinched the point for SIUE with a 6-4 win over
Michelle Trochez and
Sofija Dunisijevic to give them the early 1-0 advantage.
In singles play, SIUE swept the first three singles matches at the number three, four, and five spots with straight set victories at each spot to clinch the win for the Cougars. In the final three singles matches at the number one, two, and six spots,
Mathilde Humbert,
Megan Caffin, and Labrador all went to three sets with their opponets, but ultimately fell in the last set as SIUE completed the singles sweep.
The Lions will travel to SEMO on Monday for their final OVC match of the regular season. First serve from Cape Girardeau, Mo is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
