Men's Volleyball Sweeps #15 Ohio State On Thursday

COLUMBUS, OH. - The Lindenwood Men's Volleyball team swept #15 Ohio State on the road on Thursday night behind a match-high 11 kills from Brendan Louthain. The Lions hit .377 as a team and finished the match with 37 kills while adding six blocks and 20 digs defensively. 

In the opening set, both teams traded early runs with Ohio State holding on to a 14-13 lead. The Lions went on a 4-1 after that behind two service errors and an attack error, while Luke Kraft had a kill to make it 17-15 in favor of Lindenwood. The Lions would use another late run behind a service ace from Zach Solomon as Lindenwood took the opening set 25-22. Brendan Louthain and Kraft each had five kills to lead the team in the opening set of the match. In the second set, the Buckeyes jumped out to a 9-4 lead, but LU responded in a big way by using a 10-3 to take control of the set by a score of 14-12 behind a service ace each from Solomon and Amir Grant, and two more kills from Kraft and one from Louthain. Grant, Owen Walsh, Kraft, and Louthain all added kills later in the second set to take a 2-0 lead by a score of 25-23. 

In the last set, the Lions trailed early once again by a score of 10-6, but Lindenwood was able to go on a 4-0 run to tie the set after Solomon added two more service aces and Caden Whiteside recorded two kills to even the set at 10. The rest of the set would be back and forth until the final five points when Lindenwood went on a 5-1 run to complete the sweep over Ohio State and improve to 5-1 in the MIVA. Luke Kraft and Brendan Louthain each added a service ace during the Lions final run, while Amir Grant recorded a kill to finish the match with six kills on nine attempts. 

As a team, Lindenwood had seven service aces and 35 total assists offensively as Zach Solomon was responsible for 30 assists and three of the service aces to lead the Lions in those two categories. LU will wrap up their road trip on Saturday afternoon in Highland Heights, Kentucky for a matchup with Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. CT.
