Selander, DiGiacinto Lead Lacrosse Past Austin Peay

The Lindenwood lacrosse team (7-10, 4-4 ASUN) concluded the regular season with a 16-13 win over Austin Peay (4-13, 0-8 ASUN) on Wednesday afternoon in Clarksville, Tenn.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood got the scoring started off the stick of Luci Selander who converted a free-position attempt just over a minute into the game. Austin Peay scored the next two to jump in front before Alissa DiGiacinto evened things up at two apiece at the 8:12 mark of the opening frame. The Govs netted the next two goals to go in front 4-2. Each team traded scores before the end of the quarter as DiGiacinto got her second of the day. The Lions trailed 5-3 after one.

Two quick goals from the Lions to begin the second quarter tied the game at five. The first came from Nicole Gorman off a feed from Selander and the second was from Selander assisted by DiGiacinto. Austin Peay went back in front before Lindenwood regained the lead with scores from Selander and Tatum Bryant who was assisted by Elise Fawcett.

The back-and forth frame continued with the Govs tying it at seven before DiGiacinto gave the Lions the lead. 8-7 with just under three minutes to play. Taylor Coughlin made a few big saves before the end of the half to keep the Lions in front by one at the break.

Lindenwood came out firing to begin the second half with goals from Reese Krieger and Selander to give the Lions a 10-7 lead. After Austin Peay scored, DiGiacinto found Annie Wille in front to restore the three-goal lead. Krieger gave the Lions their largest lead at 12-8, but Austin Peay would not go away and cut the gap to 12-10 with just under six minutes to play in the quarter.

DiGiacinto found the back of the net for the fourth time on the day, putting the Lions in front 13-10. However, Austin Peay scored the final two goals of the frame, cutting the deficit to 13-12 after three.

In the fourth, DiGiacinto doubled the lead to 14-12. A few minutes later, Selander made a big defensive play, causing a turnover and scoring to put the Lions up three. Claire Blue would seal the win for the Lions as they went on to win 16-13.
