Lacrosse Defeats Coastal Carolina 11-9; Advances to ASUN Semifinals

The Lindenwood lacrosse team (8-10, 4-4 ASUN) won a game at the ASUN Tournament for the first time in program history after defeating Coastal Carolina (10-8, 3-5 ASUN), 11-9 on Tuesday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla.

GAME OVERVIEW
Coastal jumped out to a 1-0 lead before Luci Selander picked up a loose ball and went coast-to-coast to tie things up at one apiece. The Chants went regained the lead at the 6:56 mark but the Lions responded quickly as Reese Krieger found the back of net just 15 seconds later. The Lions took their first lead of the day when Charlize Vang scored off a feed from Alissa DiGiacinto, giving the Black and Gold a 3-2 lead after one.

Tatum Bryant got the scoring started in the second, assisted by Selander. Lindenwood took advantage of a man-up situation a few minutes later as Nicole Gorman netted her first of the day assisted by Vang. CCU pulled back within two, making the score 5-3 at the 4:17 mark. The Lions had a good look to end the half, but Charotte Sadler made the stop to keep the deficit at two heading to the locker room.

Two quick goals by Bryant and Krieger put the Lions up 7-3 less than five minutes into the second half. The Chants scored the next two, closing the gap to two with eight minutes to play in the third. Lindenwood answered right back with a pair of its own coming from Krieger and Sarah Jardine who was assisted by DiGiacinto. However, Coastal would not co away and cut the deficit to 9-7 heading into the fourth.

The Chanticleers tied the game at nine with two quick goals to begin the fourth. Both teams tightened up on the defensive end as the game reached the later stages. Taylor Coughlin made a big save on a Coastal free-position attempt with just under five minutes to go. However, Lindenwood was denied at the other end and the game remained tied.

A few minutes later, Coughlin came up with another stop and got Lindenwood the ball back. On the next possession, Krieger got by her defender and found the lower left corner of the net, putting the Lions in front 10-9 with 1:57 to go. DiGiacinto and the Lions won the ensuing draw control and were able to hang onto the ball. Krieger put the game away with her fifth goal of the day, assisted by Bryant and Lindenwood went on to win 11-9.
