MACOMB, Ill. - The Lindenwood Softball team (25-22, 14-10 OVC) fell in the series finale against Western Illinois on the road by a score of 11-3. The Leathernecks put up 10 runs across the fifth and sixth innings to take the final game of the series against the Lions.
WIU struck first in the bottom of the first inning behind a sacrifice fly to put WIU in front 1-0.
Ava Risum limited the Leathernecks in innings two through four as the Freshman right hander allowed just four base runners over those three innings and struck out two to keep Lindenwood in the contest. The Lions tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a
Dallis Darnell RBI single to centerfield that scored
Izzy Wilcox, but then WIU responded in a big way by scoring six runs on three hits and three walks to grab a 7-1 lead after five innings of play.
Lindenwood showed some fight in the top of the sixth as the Black and Gold cut the Leatherneck deficit to four by a score of 7-3 behind a
Kylee Crowder RBI triple and a
Jolie McMinn Sacrifice fly one at bat later to score Crowder, but WIU ended the game in the bottom of the sixth by putting up four more runs on two hits and three walks to take the series finale by a final score of 11-3.
The Lions will now end their regular season next weekend at home when they will host Morehead State. The first two games of the series will be on Friday, May 1 with the regualr season and series finale being on Saturday. May 2.
