Lacrosse Outlasts Coastal Carolina 10-9 on Friday

The Lindenwood lacrosse team (5-8, 2-3 ASUN() earned a thrilling 10-9 victory over Coastal Carolina (8-5, 1-3 ASUN) on Friday afternoon inside Steward Field at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
Coastal Carolina took an early lead before Carly Thiel evened the game at one on a free-position goal at the 8:51 mark of the opening quarter. In a defensive frame that saw just 15 combined shots, the Chanticleers took the lead late in the first and led 2-1 after 15 minutes.

The Chanticleers scored the first three goals of the second quarter before Alissa DiGiacinto found the back of the net with 2:40 remaining in the opening half, cutting the deficit to 5-2, which would be the score at the break.

Coastal scored another early goal to begin the second half to extend the lead to 6-2. Lindenwood began chipping away, however with a pair of free-position goals from Nicole Gorman and Luci Selander making the score 6-4 with 8:54 remaining in the quarter. The Chants answered back and restored the three-goal lead before Selander responded off a feed from Annie Wille, cutting the deficit to 7-5 just past the halfway mark of the third.

The Lions closed the gap to one at 7-6 after Selander completed her hat trick in the quarter, assisted by Charlize Vang and the Lions trailed by one after three.

Lindenwood tied the game off the stick of Wille, assisted by Selander less than a minute into the fourth. A few minutes later, Lindenwood took the lead following a one-on-one play from DiGiacinto that gave the Black and Gold an 8-7 advantage. Elise Fawcett extended the lead to 9-7, assisted by DiGiacinto at the 11:40 mark of the fourth. Just over a minute later, the Chants got back within one at 9-8.

Taylor Coughlin stood tall in net, compiling six saves in the fourth, keeping Lindenwood in front by one. DiGiacinto scored her third of the day at the 4:23 mark of the fourth, making the score 10-8. Coastal closed the gap to one at 10-9 with 2:54 to play. The Lions won the ensuing draw control, but CCU got a defensive stop and called timeout with just over a minute to play.

On the ensuing possession, Lindenwood stood tall, causing a turnover and sealing the 10-9 win.
