The Lindenwood men's golf team finished in 11
th place at the Racer Intercollegiate this week in Paducah, Ky. The Lions compiled a team score of 895.
OVERVIEW
The Lions opened the tournament with a team score of 299, which was led by
Francisco Gavilan Fernandez who fired a two-under 70. He used four birdies to help him get to that score, including three on the back nine.
Jan Wdowka and
Samuel Bergenstein each had a pair of birdies during the opening round and shot 74 and 76, respectively.
Santiago Juesas Benet carded a 79 and had a trio of birdies.
Owen Shy rounded out the lineup with an 83.
Lindenwood improved by five strokes in round two with a 294. Wdowka fired a three-under 69, which included five birdies overall. He finished his second round strong with a bogey-free back nine. Bergensten and Gavilan each had three birdies across the second 18 holes and shot 74 and 75, respectively. Shy came in just behind them with a 76 and Juesas recorded an 84. After 36 holes, the Lions sat in 12
th place, but were just four shots back of ninth.
In the final round, Lindenwood carded a 302 overall. Gavilan fired an even-par 72 with the help of five birdies. He was closely followed by Wdowka who finished his tournament shooting a 73. Rounding out the lineup was Juesas and Bergensten with 78 and 79 followed by Shy with an 81.
