One semester after setting an all-time GPA record of 3.49, Lindenwood student-athletes have done it again, as Lindenwood's 22 NCAA Division I sports teams combined for a 3.53 GPA during the spring semester.
"While there is a great deal of conversation around the evolving landscape of college athletics (some of it positive, some of it challenging), one thing that can never be overlooked is the lasting impact of academic success," said VP of Intercollegiate Athletics
Jason Coomer. "Our student-athletes have once again demonstrated what it truly means to be exceptional, posting an all-time record 3.53 GPA this spring. That achievement is a direct reflection of the incredible commitment from our faculty, the tireless work of our athletic academic staff, and the priority our coaches and administrators place on success in the classroom."
20 of the 22 programs posted a 3.0 or better, while 13 programs earned a 3.5 or higher. Overall, 165 student-athletes recorded a 4.0 or higher during the spring semester. Women's lacrosse, women's soccer, and football all had 18 individuals earn 4.0's, while eight programs in total had 10 or more student-athletes reach that mark.
Women's lacrosse led the way with a 3.86 cumulative GPA, while women's cross country was not far behind with a 3.85. They were followed by women's soccer (3.83), women's hockey (3.76), women's volleyball, and women's tennis who each had a 3.75.
"At Lindenwood, we have always believed that the true measure of a student-athlete extends far beyond competition," continued Coomer. "The degree they earn and the habits they build here will shape their lives long after their playing careers end. This is what will allow them to lead, to serve, and to make a meaningful impact on others."
On the men's side, both baseball and hockey had a GPA of 3.73. Baseball had 13 student-athletes earning a 4.0, while hockey had six. Soccer also had an impressive semester in the classroom, registering a 3.50 while 10 individuals with a 4.0.
The following are the top 10 teams with the highest GPA in the spring semester: women's lacrosse (3.86), women's cross country (3.85), women's soccer (3.83), women; s hockey (3.76). women's volleyball (3.75), women's tennis (3.75), baseball (3.73), men's hockey (3.73), softball (3.71), and women's golf (3.68).
"We must never lose sight of why our student-athletes choose Lindenwood in the first place, to obtain a meaningful degree and set the course for a successful future. Athletics simply provides them the opportunity to pursue that goal while competing in the sport they love."
