Men's Soccer Falls On The Road At IU Indy

The Lindenwood Men's Soccer team (1-1-0) fell on the road to IU Indy on Monday afternoon by a final score of 1-0. The Lions outshot the Jaguars 16-10, but IU Indy scored early in the first half to hand Lindenwood their first loss of the 2026 season.

In the 16th minute, IU Indy was awarded a penalty kick after a foul was committed inside the box on LU. Senior Forward Jose Antonio Herrera took the penalty kick for the Jaguars and converted on the opportunity to put IU Indy in front 1-0 with 29 minutes to go in the opening half.

Later in the half, Lindenwood had two quality chances to even the score, but were unable to capitalize. In the 32nd minute, the Lions forced a turnover in IU Indy's defensive half of the field that led to a three-on-three, but the shot off the foot of Omar Sanderson was wide left of the goal as the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Jaguars. The second chance for Lindenwood happened with less than a minute to go in the half after a yellow card was issued to IU Indy. Luca Bartoni took the free kick from just outside of the 18 yard-box and sent an on-target shot over the wall of defenders, but the Jaguar goalkeeper knocked the shot over the top of the net to keep Lindenwood off the scoreboard at the break.

In the second half, the Lions earned six corner kicks and recorded 11 shots, four of which were on target, but couldn't find the equalizing goal. Bartoni and Thato Lekgetho each had two shots on goal, while Maxime Legai and Clement Baron added one shot on goal a piece to lead the Lions offensively.

Lindenwood will return to action on Wednesday night at home against Blackburn College at 7 PM. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
