The Lindenwood Men's Soccer team (3-2-1) dropped their first home game in nearly two years, falling to Evansville on Friday night by a score of 3-0.
The Purple Aces scored twice in the first 21 minutes of the contest to grab a 2-0 lead just under halfway to go in the opening frame. The Lions finished the first half with three total shots and one being on target, which came off the foot of
Luca Bartoni in the 10th minute. Evansville outshot Lindenwood 8-3 in the opening 45 minutes of play and had a slight 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Quinn Closson picked up three saves after Evansville scored their second goal of the half to keep the deficit at two heading into the locker room.
Early on in the second half,
Philip Viberg Rasmussen had a good scoring opportunity thanks to a great upfield pass off the foot of
Omar Sanderson, but Viberg Rasmussen's shot was just wide left from inside the six yard box as the deficit remained at two for Lindenwood. Later on in the half, Evansville extended the lead to three goals off of a bicycle kick goal that was generated from the Purple Ace's second corner kick of the half.
Less than two minutes later, the Lions were awarded a free kick that led to a
Clement Baron header that was on target, but the Evansville goalkeeper made the save to keep the Lions off the scoreboard. The Lions finished the contest with a season-low five shots and only recorded two on target.
Lindenwood will look to bounce back in their next contest, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15 at home against Tulsa. Kick off from Steward Field at Hunter Stadium is set for 7 PM on ESPN+.
