ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's soccer team (5-4-2, 1-0 OVC) got off to a strong start in conference play with a 3-0 win over Morehead State (5-7, 0-1 OVC) at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon. It was the second three-goal performance from the Lions in their last three contests.
Kaylee Conoyer opened the scoring in the 20th minute, sliding the ball into the far corner of the net after receiving a great cut back from
Sami Roggenkamp, who had gained possession following another clinical pass from
Mackenzie Compton on the right side.
The Lions took the 1-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Eagles 6-3 in the period with a pair of shots on goal.
Lindenwood would double their lead less than three minutes into the second half, with
Anna Johnson playing a ball into the box that was headed by a Morehead defender right to the feet of
Sam Steele, who promptly delivered a strike into the far side of the net for her first goal of the season.
The Lions tacked on their third score of the afternoon at the 83:00 mark, as
Mackenzie Compton got a clean look at the net after a misplay by the Morehead State keeper left the Eagles with no defenders between Lindenwood's leading scorer and her fourth goal of the season.
