Sarah Baumann is entering her 13th season as the head coach of the Lindenwood field hockey team in 2023.
Under Bauman, Lindenwood field hockey team compiled a record of 8-9 during its first NCAA Division I season. The Lions picked up their first victory at the Division I level, defeating Queens on October 9.
During the 2021 season, Baumann led the Lions to a 6-9 record to wrap up their final season as a part of NCAA DII. The Lions boasted a strong strength of schedule, battling two top-seven teams and DI Saint Louis, which marked the first time since 2009 the Lions downed the Billikens. Lindenwood posted its seventh consecutive campaign with at least a .750 winning percentage at home, dating back to 2014. Baumann coached Allie Hosto to National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America Second Team honors following the season. Annick Giebels also earned postseason accolades, as the Netherlands product was named to the NFHCA DII Senior Team under Baumann's direction. Lindenwood also topped all NCAA DII programs with a 3.67 team GPA in 2021, ranking number one on the NFHCA National Academic Team Award List. Nine student-athletes also appeared as NFHCA Scholars of Distinction, designated for individuals who earned a 3.9 GPA or higher. Those players includeÂ

The team did not compete in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, the Lions went 11-7 under Baumann, while finishing the season with win in three of the team's final four games. Baumann coached Bridget Hoogendijk to NHFCA All-American second team honors. Hoogendijk would go on to finish fifth in all of NCAA Division II with an average of .94 goals per game under the direction of Baumann. For the sixth-straight season under Baumann, the team won at least 10 games.
The Lions notched a 12-3 mark in 2018, ending the season on a four-game winning streak. Statistically, the Lions were one of the top programs in NCAA Division II, leading the nation in save percentage at .835, finishing second in assists per game (2.33), fourth in scoring margin (1.93), and fifth in points per game (8.73). Senior goalie Skylar Starbeck led the NCAA with a .825 save percentage and junior forward Bridget Hoogendijk was third with 1.27 goals per game.Â
In the 2017 season, the Lions finished 17-2, an Lindenwood NCAA record for wins, to lead all of NCAA DII with a .895 win percentage. Goalie Starbeck led the NCAA with a 0.87 goals against average, as Lindenwood was ranked No. 8 in the final NFHCA poll. Baumann led the Lions to their second-consecutive ECAC Tournament Championship
Lindenwood won its first ECAC Tournament Championship in 2016 and had its best season in program history under Baumann. The Lions had the highest scoring offense in NCAA Division II, scoring 3.74 points a game, and also ranked in the top 10 in scoring defense with a 1.03 GAA. The Lions finished the year with a 16-3 record, with two of the losses coming in overtime. Baumann helped coach the first All-American in program history as Tara Robben earned first-team honors. Five members of the team earned all-ECAC honors, including Robben, who was touted as the conference Offensive Player of the Year, Nicole Johnston was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, Skylar Starbeck shared ECAC Goalie of the Year honors, and Baumann was named the ECAC Coach of the Year. Fourteen players were honored on the ECAC All-Academic team.
In 2015, Baumann led Lindenwood to its second-straight 10-win season. The Lions had a perfect 5-0 record at Hunter Stadium, including a 4-3 win over nationally-ranked Limestone. Baumann had eight players receive all-ECAC honors in 2015, including Victoria Gil who was the ECAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Gil, Greta Banhozler, and Nicole Baumann were first-team selections, and five players earned second-team honors. Thirteen student-athletes were named to the ECAC All-Academic team.

In 2014, Lindenwood took another step forward in the NCAA Division II ranks. The Lions tied the school record for NCAA wins with 10, including a 2-1 victory over nationally-ranked Slippery Rock. Baumann helped coach four All-ECAC players, including the ECAC Rookie of the Year, Banholzer, and the ECAC Goalie of the Year, Gil. Carly Brengosz and Linda Oberle were second-team selections on the all-ECAC team. Off the field, eight players earned NFHCA academic honors.
In 2013, Baumann and the Lions went 8-9 against a tough schedule that included four games against nationally-ranked NCAA Division II programs. Lindenwood advanced to the finals of the ECAC DII Field Hockey Invitational Tournament where it fell in a shootout to Limestone. Four players were named to the ISA All-Conference team, led by Alex Chappell who was named the Independent Defensive Player of the Year. Kristi O’Connor and Oberle were also first-team members, and Brengosz was a second-team pick. Ten members of the team were named to the NFHCA National Academic squad.
In 2012, Baumann led the field hockey team to being named the most improved team in NCAA Division II. The Lions won eight more games than the previous season and had an improvement of 7.5 games, two higher than the next closest team. Lindenwood’s offense went from 1.13 goals a game to 2.50 goals a contest, and defensively, the team’s GAA went from 3.09 to 1.88. Lindenwood finished the 2012 season on a five-game winning streak, including winning the NCAA DII Independent Alliance Tournament. Three players, Kristi O’Connor, Lynsey Porter, and Kayleigh Harrower, were named to the ISA All-Conference team. O’Connor finished the season ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division II in goals and points. Off the field, Porter was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team.
In Baumann's first year in 2011, Lindenwood won two games as the school transitioned to the NCAA Division II level. The Lions picked up a win over NCAA Division I Liberty in the final game of the season.
Prior to Lindenwood, Baumann was an assistant coach at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. In the 2010 season, the Big Red went 6-6 in conference and advanced to the conference semifinals.
During her playing career, Baumann was a defender and midfielder for the Missouri State Bears from 2005-2008. At Missouri State, Baumann was a four-year starter and a two-time captain. In her four years at Missouri State, she started in 79 of her 80 games played, and in 2007, Baumann was the lone Missouri State representative to be named to the first-team All-MAC. Her junior year, she was also named the Bear’s Most Valuable Player. During Baumann's time at Missouri State, she represented her team off the field on the NFHCA Division I Academic Squad. Baumann graduated from Missouri State with her bachelor of science degree in human resource management in 2009 and she received her master’s in sports management in 2010.
