Marshall Newman

  • Title
    Men's Basketball Assistant Coach

Marshall Newman returns to the sidelines for his tenth year as an assistant coach with the Lions basketball team in 2014-15, and his sixth year on head coach Brad Soderberg's staff. Newman assists in all aspects in the program including recruiting, scheduling, designing and implementing pre- and postseason workouts, and on-court coaching.

In his first nine seasons at Lindenwood, the Lions have recorded an overall record of 185-98. The Lions have had a winning season in every year but two since Newman has joined the program, and the team has at least 19 wins in six of the nine seasons. Newman has helped Lindenwood players earn 22 all-conference awards and eight All-American honors.

Newman has been a part of the top three Lindenwood teams in program history. In his first season at the school in 2005-06, he helped the Lions set a school record with 26 victories. That squad won the first HAAC Championship in program history, and it advanced to the NAIA Division II Tournament Final Four. In 2010-11, he was a part of the coaching staff on the Lindenwood team which broke the 2005-06 record for wins. Lindenwood won 29 games that year, won its second HAAC Championship, and advanced to the second round of the NAIA Division I National Tournament. In 2011-12, the Lions compiled the highest-winning percentage in school history, and lost just three games.

Newman has also played a big role in Lindenwood successfully transiting from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II level. In 2012-13, the team’s first full season of NCAA Division II play, the Lions went 19-7. Lindenwood went 12-6 in its first season in the MIAA and finished just one game out of a regular season conference championship. Last season, the Lions won 11 games and advanced to the MIAA Postseason Tournament in their first season of eligibility.

Newman completed his playing career for Webster University in 2005. He earned all-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for the Gorloks. Prior to playing at Webster, Newman was an all-conference performer at Illinois Central College, where he averaged 13 points and six rebounds per game.

A native of St. Louis and a 2000 graduate of Lindbergh High School, Newman graduated from Webster in May of 2005 with a degree in media communications, and received his Masters of Arts in Teaching in May of 2007.

Marshall, and his wife Amy, reside in St. Charles, Mo. and have two sons, Cooper and Tanner.
