James Tobin is entering his fourth season as the assistant coach of the Lindenwood men’s and women’s tennis teams in 2022-23.
During the 2021-2022 season, Tobin helped lead the women's tennis program to an 8-7 record, including a strong 6-3 mark at home, while the men's team finished 6-7 overall and boasted an impressive 6-1 mark in St. Charles. Both teams earned wins over powerhouse Southern Indiana in GLVC play, while the men added a league victory against McKendree and the women versus Missouri-St. Louis. Tobin also helped push the women to a huge victory over DI Saint Louis, picking up the program's first win against the Billikens.
In 2020-21, Tobin helped coach the women’s squad to their first conference victory of the campaign at Southern Indiana in a 6-1 effort. Tobin assisted in the tutelage of Juan Pablo Herrera, as he secured the first All-GLVC accolade in program history. In the classroom, the Lions collected ITA All-Academic Team and GLVC Team Academic All-Conference honors, and the men's and women's teams combined for 13 ITA Scholar-Athlete and 15 Academic All-GLVC selections.
In his first season with the Lions in 2019-20, Tobin helped coach the men’s and women’s teams to 2019-20 GEICO Team Academic All-GLVC honors. The season was shortened, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tobin played collegiately at Missouri Baptist University, where he helped the Spartans win their first conference title. Missouri Baptist qualified for the NAIA National Championships for the first time in school history, after setting a program record with 11 wins. Tobin was a two-time second-team all-AMC player, and was a team captain in two of his three years at Missouri Baptist. Tobin holds a degree in accounting from Missouri Baptist and a master’s in business administration from Lindenwood.
