Lindenwood women's soccer had this date circled when they would play Benedictine again ever since the Ravens kept the Lady Lions out of last year's NAIA National Tournament with a 2-1 victory in the HAAC Championship game. Lindenwood was able to get some revenge with a 3-1 upset on Saturday over No. 15 Benedictine.
Benedictine struck first in the game with a goal in the 12th minute. Teal Swanson played the ball into the box to Hannah Francescon, who then passed it to Ellen Parker who scored in front of the net.
Lindsay Shea took the game over then for the Lions, scoring in the 27th minute.
Ashley Tankersley would score the eventual game winner in the 34th minute. On the first goal,
Kelsey Anselmo passed it her from near midfield for a breakaway goal. The second was in a scramble in front of the net that Shea was able to tap in after the ball got past the Benedictine goal.
In the second-half, the only score came on a free kick by
Paige Hickey. Her passing attempt into the box managed to not find anyone but did find the back of the goal.
Jessica Morelli earned the victory in goal, making four saves in the game. In all, Lindenwood outshot Benedictine by a 16-9 margin and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
