The Lindenwood Lady Lion soccer team has had some recent struggles scoring goals, but that was not the case on Tuesday night. The Lady Lions scored early and often to beat the visiting Culver-Stockton Wildcats, 7-0.
The Lions got the scoring going early, in the 13th minute
Lindsay Shea scored the first of her two goals on the night to give Lindenwood an early, 1-0 lead. Only five minutes later she would score again with help from
Paige Hickey to put the Lions up, 2-0. One minute and 20 seconds later Hickey would score the Lions' third goal. The first half closed with
Jamie Winchell scoring to give the Lions a commanding 4-0 lead going into the half.
The play in first half was dominated by the Lady Lions and the second half was much of the same. Hickey would score her second goal of the game and the team's fifth, just 10 minutes into the second half. Winchell would join the two goal club when she netted the team's sixth goal in the 80th minute.
Ashley Tankersley would score the game's final goal in the 88th minute to give the Lady Lions the 7-0 win.
For most of the game, the ball spent the majority of the time on the Wildcat side of the field. Lions' goalie
Erin Sage was only forced to make one save on the day as the Wildcats could only muster two shots.
With the win the Lady Lions improve their overall record to 4-4-1 and their conference mark to 1-1-1. With the loss the Wildcats dropped to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the HAAC. Next up for the Lady Lions is a trip to William Jewell on Saturday.
Game notes: The seven goals was the most the Lady Lions have scored all year in a game...
Lindsay Shea now has seven goals on the year...the Lady Lion defense has only given up two goals in three HAAC games...the shutout was the team's second of the year and
