Men's Basketball Wins Third Straight With Overtime Victory

The Lindenwood men's basketball team survived a scare on Friday night and handed William Penn its first loss of the season. The Lions had to play five extra minutes before defeating the Statesmen by a 90-85 score.

Richard Rose continued his early season heroic s by hitting two free throws with under two seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In the extra period, the Lions outscored William Penn 13-8 for the victory.

Lindenwood shot 42.2 percent from the field but held the Statesmen to a 33.7 percentage. William Penn did knock down 11 three-pointers, compared to five for the Lions. The game was decided at the line, however, as Lindenwood made 31-of-41, while William Penn made just 22 in nine less trips to the charity stripe.

Rose finished with a team-high 18 points, one more than Joey Parker who also had six rebounds and four assists. Toriano Adams had a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds, and Brandon Kunkel was in double-figures with 10 points. Tyler Donaldson added eight points, Shane Williams had six points and six rebounds, and Alfred Nelson had six points and five blocks. Rounding out the scoring were Jerome Douglas and David King with six apiece.

Lindenwood will compete in the championship game of the Huntington Classic on Saturday afternoon.
