Men's Basketball Can't Overcome Hot Start By Huntington

The Lindenwood men's basketball team suffered its second loss in as many road games in 2009 on Saturday afternoon, falling to Huntington by an 84-67 score.

The Lions never led in the game as the Foresters came out hot from the field, hitting 60 percent of its field goal attempts in the first-half, including eight-of-14 from three-point range. Huntington led 23-20 midway through the half when it went on an 11-3 run to get a double digit lead. Its lead stayed around 10 until, with Lindenwood trailing 39-30, the Foresters scored 11 straight points, including three three-pointers. Lindenwood hit a couple of three-points in the final 70 seconds but still trailed 50-36 at halftime.

In the second, Lindenwood could never get a large run to get back in the game. The closest it came was after a three-point play by Shane Williams cut the lead to 70-62 with eight minutes remaining. Huntington answered with six straight points though and pulled away from there.

Lindenwood shot just 43.9 percent from the field for the game, including 33.3 percent from three-point range. After averaging almost 35 free throw attempts a game in its three-game winning streak, the Lions went to the line just 11 times against Huntington. The Foresters finished the game with 50.9 percent shooting from the field, 45 percent from three-point range, and they were 17-of-21 from the line. Huntington also had seven less turnovers and outrebounded the Lions.

Joey Parker and Richard Rose each had a team-high 15 points for Lindenwood. The pair both shot five-of-nine from the field, with Parker hitting four three-pointers and Rose knocking down three long range shots. Alfred Nelson had nine points, Brandon Kunkel scored eight, and Toriano Adams finished with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
