The No. 12 Lindenwood men's basketball team won its second straight contest over a ranked opponent with a 95-79 victory over No. 23 Life.
Richard Rose scored a career-high 37 points, including 26 in the second-half when the Lions scored 59 points to pull away with the victory. He finished the game by making 10-of-18 field goals, three-of-seven three-pointers, and 14-of-18 free throws. Rose also led the team with six assists and two steals.
Three other Lions were in double-figure scoring in
Joey Parker,
Brandon Kunkel and
Toriano Adams. Parker was perfect shooting the ball, making one three-pointer, one two-pointer, and 10 free throws. Kunkel finished with 14, including making four-of-eight attempts from beyond the arc. Adams had his second double-double in three games with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The two teams traded leads nine times in the first half until the final two minutes when
Tyler Donaldson and Kunkel hit back-to-back three-pointers which helped the Lions lead 36-33 at halftime.
In the second-half, Life went on a 10-1 run early on to take a 47-43 lead but Lindenwood retook the lead a little later with a 7-0 run started by a three-pointer and another field goal by Rose. The two teams were tied at 58 with 9:36 remaining in the contest. From that point on, Lindenwood outscored Life 37-21. In that span, the Lions shot seven-of-12 from the field and 19-of-20 from the free throw line.
Lindenwood finished the game shooting 54.9 percent from the field, made nine-of-18 from three-point range and shot 83.3 percent from the charity stripe. The Lions also won the rebounding battle 35-24 and only had two more turnovers against Life's pressing defense. The Running Eagles shot 46.4 percent from the field , but just 63.3 percent from the free throw line.
The Lions will next compete in the Huntington Tournament next weekend, starting with a Friday contest against William Penn.
