The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team remained perfect Sunday afternoon, sweeping Grand Valley State with a 5-1 win. The Lady Lions' defense was stingy once again, surrendering just their second goal in the last seven games.
Lindenwood struck first when
Krystal Martin tallied an even strength goal midway through the first period. Six minutes later,
Erica Wynn would push the lead to two with her fifth goal of the year.
Seconds into the middle period, Martin would notch her second score of the game and third of the weekend.
Kali Frederick added another tally midway through the frame and
Shannon Murphy would put the game away with a score shortly after.
Rebecca Bernet stopped 20 of 21 shots and the only goal came with 21 seconds remaining in the contest.
Mandy Dion recorded two assists and Frederick added another for the Lady Lions.
Saturday evening, Lindenwood pitched its fifth shutout in its last six games, defeating Grand Valley State 6-0. Bernet notched her fourth shutout of the year and the victory improved the Lady Lions to 7-0 in the CCWHA.
Martin got the Lady Lions on the board early, scoring just four minutes into the contest. The score would remain 1-0 midway through the second period when Lindenwood would erupt for three goals in less than 40 seconds. Dion was responsible for the first two goals and
Ashley Rebeck would score seconds later to give the Lady Lions a 4-0 cushion.
Halfway through the third period, Rebeck would net her second goal of the evening and
Sarah Oliphant would convert an unassisted shorthanded goal shortly after to end the scoring.
Bernet stopped all 20 shots she faced and Martin added two assists.
Lindenwood (10-0, 8-0) will return to action next Friday against Bethel University.
