Lady Lions Back on the Court at the Tabor Classic

Storyline

The Lady Lions will ring in the new year in Hillsboro, Kansas at the Tabor College Classic. Lindenwood will play a pair of games starting on New Year's Day and January 2nd.

This will be the first time the Lady Lions will compete in the Tabor Classic. The tournament will feature four teams, two from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and two from the Heart of American Athletic Conference. The hosts, Tabor College, and Sterling College will represent the KCAC and the Lady Lions and the Baker University Wildcats will carry the torch for the HAAC.

The Lady Lions will take on Sterling in the first game of the new year and then will battle the Tabor College Lady Jays on January 2nd.

These upcoming games will be the first for the Lady Lions in over 20 days since they fell to Evangel on December 10th at home.

Last Time Out
Right before the Lady Lions went on Holiday break they began their Heart of American Athletic Conference portion of the schedule. Lindenwood went 1-2 in a three game stretch against Culver-Stockton, Baker and Evangel.

The Lady Lions started the three-game stretch with 58-50 win over Culver-Stockton. The win was the second consecutive for the Lady Lions and their first conference win. Three Lady Lions scored in double-figures led by Destini Wilson who led the team with 20 points.

Next up for Lindenwood was a trip to Baldwin City, Kansas to take on the Baker Wildcats. The Wildcats would snap the Lady Lions win streak with a 74-52 win. Lindenwood was led by Sade Adams who poured in 10 points.

The final game of the first semester was back at home against the Evangel Crusaders. Evangel was just too much for the Lady Lions winning, 79-64.

Doubling Up
As a team, Lindenwood has already compiled four double-doubles in only nine games. Cassie Williams and Kelly Albers both have recorded two.

Williams Leading The Way
Senior Cassie Williams is leading the Lady Lions in scoring with an average of 11.8 points a game. The senior from Wright City, Mo. is also leading the team in rebounds (7.2), steals (1.7), free throws made (31), free throws attempted (48), blocks (6), minutes played (32.1) and assists per game (3.8).
       
Three-Point Defense
Lindenwood is holding its opponents to just 28 percent shooting from behind the three-point line. Opponents are averaging under five made three pointers a game. The 28 percent ranks the Lady Lions 22nd in the country and the best in the HAAC.

Young Lady Lions
The six Lady Lion freshmen have performed well so far this season, averaging over seven points a game as a group and have 13 combined starts.

Team Full Of Thieves
In the Lady Lions first six games they have totalled 90 steals which is good for over 10 a game and puts them fifth in the HAAC.

Every player except one on the roster has recorded at least one steal this year and four have recorded double-digits.

Spreading It Around
It has not been a one person show for the Lady Lions this year. In nine games there has been five different Lady Lions lead the team in soring. Cassie Williams and Destini Wilson have led the team in scoring three times each and Kelly Albers, Abby Schultenhenrich and Sade Adams have been the top scorer once.

Leading At The Half
The Lady Lions have gone to the locker room with the lead four times this year. In those four games Lindenwood is 2-2.

Shooting From Downtown
The Lady Lions have made at least two three-pointers in every game this season. The five threes against Evangel is the most the Lady Lions have made  in a game. Destini Wilson leads the Lady Lions in three-pointers with a total of 10.

Getting To The Stripe
In nine games this year the Lady Lions have gotten to the free throw line 207 times, which is 23 more times than their opponents. Seven out of nine games the Lady Lions have attempted more free throws than their opponents. Lindenwood has made at least 10 free throws in every game but two this season.

Cassie Williams leads the team in the free throws attempted with 48 and that also ranks her fourth in the HAAC.

Neutral Courts
This weekend's games will be played on a neutral court and the Lady Lions have performed well over the last four years at neutral sites. Since the 2005-06 season, Lindenwood has a 5-4 record in neutral site games.  

Scouting Sterling
The Sterling College Lady Warriors are coming into this weekend's tournament with an overall record of 8-3 and a perfect KCAC mark of 4-0. In the latest NAIA Division II rankings, Sterling has entered the poll at 25th. The Lady Warriors are in the midst of a five game winning streak and have beat their opponents by an average of over 15 points a game.

Sterling is led by a pair of dynamic sophomores. Megan Patrick leads the team with over 18 points a game and Catheryn Wiebe pours in 14 points a game to go along with a team leading nine rebounds per contest. Patrick ranks third in the KCAC in scoring and is 19th in all of Division II. She has also made 50 percent of her three-pointers (30-of-60) which is the 4th best in all of Division II.

The Lady Warriors are coached by Lonnie Kruse who is in his 28th season at Sterling. Over Kruse's 28 seasons the Lady Warriors have become one of the best programs in all of the NAIA. Sterling has recorded 27 straight winning seasons, won the KCAC ten times and have made the NAIA postseason tournament 12 times under Kruse's direction.

Scouting Tabor
Tabor College comes into this weekend's games with an overall record of 3-8 and KCAC record of 2-2. After a slow start the Lady Jays are on a two-game winning streak with wins over conference foes, Bethel and McPherson. Before the recent streak the Lady Jays were on a six-game skid. The Lady Jays are 0-2 in 2009-10 against HAAC teams, after they fell to Missouri Valley in overtime and then lost to Central Methodist.

Tabor is led by a pair of youngsters, freshman Tynan Honn leads the team in scoring with 12.5 points a game and sophomore Gina Hullet is averaging over 11 points a game. Both Hullet and Honn also add over five rebounds a game. As a team the Lady Jays have forced more turnovers than they have committed over their first 11 games.

Tabor College is coached by Shawn Winter who is in his third year at the helm of the Lady Jays' basketball program. Winter has led the Lady Jays to a record of 25-46 during his time at Tabor.

Up Next
The Lady Lions will be back in action on January 7th when they pick back up their conference portion of the schedule. First up will be a trip to Marshall, Mo. to take on the Missouri Valley Vikings and then back home to take on the Graceland Yellowjackets on Jan. 9th.
