Haley McCulloch sparked the Lindenwood field hockey team to its first win of the year, defeating visiting Hendrix (Ark.), 2-0, this afternoon. It was the home opener for the Lions after starting the season with four straight road games.
The Lions, who have scored only four first half goals all season, got two quick goals from McCulloch in the first half and held on for the victory to give head coach Meg Lake her first career win.
McCulloch fired home the eventual game winner after knocking in a rebound that bounced off the pad of Hendrix goalie, Alyssa Havens. Lindenwood extended the lead moments later, capitalizing on a penalty corner opportunity.
Lauren Cato fired a pass to
Ana Maria Llosa who found a cutting McCulloch for her second goal.
In the second half, the Lions put together an excellent defensive effort, stopping all 11 penalty corners attempted by Hendrix.
Goalie
Caitlin Erickson recorded her first shutout of the season, stopping 10 shots on the day, including a penalty stroke by the Warriors in the opening minutes.
The field hockey team returns to action tomorrow against visiting Washington University (Mo.). The start of the game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
