The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team got three individual double-doubles to propel the team to a 95-90 overtime victory over the visiting Graceland Yellowjackets
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early 11-7 lead after Christina Edwards converted a three point play. From that point the Yellowjackets went on a 7-0 run to take a four point lead. After Graceland's run the Lady Lions answered right back with a 7-0 run of their own.
The rest of the first half was back and forth as the lead would change three more times until Graceland went into the locker room with a 39-36 lead.
Lindenwood came out of the locker room with a 7-0 spurt to retake the lead, 42-39. The lead would go back-and-forth until Graceland took a six point advantage with just over 13 minutes to play.
After the Lady Lions fell behind by six, they went on a 8-0 run sparked by Edwards' six straight points. Lindenwood would extend their lead to five points with just over two minutes to play in the game but Graceland would not go down easy. The Yellowjackets would tie the score at 81 with 34 seconds to play after Josilyn Wilkes connected on a pair of free throws.
The Lady Lions would have a chance for the win with just over five seconds to play but an Abby Schultenhenrich jumper just missed and the game would go into overtime tied at 81.
The overtime period would be dominated by the Lady Lions as they scored the first four points and would extend the lead up to eight and would end up winning by five.
It was a career night for a couple Lady Lions. Edwards had her best night of the season with career-high in points with 35 and a career-high 22 rebounds. The 35 points was the most points a Lady Lion has scored since Ashley Commer's 36 in 2003. The double-double was her fourth in four games this season, she was also 11-of-12 from the free throw line.
Cassie Williams also added a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Kelly Albers came off the bench to pour in 15 points and added 11 rebounds. The Lady Lions won despite shooting only 35 percent from the field and 27 percent from behind the arc.
With the win the Lady Lions improved to 4-9 and 2-3 in conference play. Lindenwood will be back at on Friday night when they take on the visiting Avila Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday night at the Hyland Performance Arena.
