The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Michigan State, and held on for a 3-2 win early Sunday morning.
Ashley Rebeck and
Lisa Moreau both scored in the first period to give the Lady Lions a 2-0 advantage going into the second.
Brett Lobreau scored early in the middle frame to push the lead to three. The Spartans scored later in the second and again in the third, but the Lindenwood defense kept Michigan State off the scoreboard over the final 10 minutes to preserve the win.
Kayla Canning posted 26 saves to earn the win in goal, and
Kendra Ganchar,
Krystal Martin, and
Allysson Arcibal each recorded an assist in the victory. Lindenwood outshot Michigan State 47-28.
On Saturday, Michigan State scored 19 seconds into overtime to defeat Lindenwood 3-2.
After neither team scored in the first period, Michigan State found the back of the next on a power play in opening minute of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Midway through the frame, Arcibal scored to tie the game at one. With less than a minute remaining in the period,
Kyley Engstrom scored to push Lindenwood ahead 2-1.
Much like the opening minute of the second period, the Spartans converted a power play score early in the third to tie the game at two. The score would remain that way until the end of regulation. Just 19 seconds into overtime the Spartans scored on a wrist shot from inside the blue line for the game winner.
Kayetoinette Stock took the loss in goal collecting 13 saves.
Samantha Redick and
Miranda Schrock both finished with an assist. Lindenwood (2-1) outshot Michigan State 56-16 in the contest.
The game was a rematch of last year's national championship game in which the Lady Lions won 2-0.
Lindenwood (3-1) will play Robert Morris next weekend in the team's home opener.
