Men's Basketball Improves to 2-0 in the HAAC

The No. 14 Lindenwood men's basketball team defeated Baker by a 72-53 score on Saturday afternoon in Baldwin City, Kan. The win was the sixth straight for the Lions and improved the team to 2-0 in conference play.

Baker shot just 36.8 percent from the field in the game, including 3 of 12 from three-point range. The Lions also forced 13 turnovers and outrebounded the Wildcats by a 41-32 margin.

Lindenwood was also cold from three-point range by making just 5 of 19. However, four of the made baskets came at a key time. The two teams were tied at 13 in the first half when the Lions went on a 17-8 run. Alfred Nelson started the run with a three-point play on a field goal and free throw. Michael Boos followed that with Lindenwood's first three-pointer in the game. Baker cut that lead to two points, but Lindenwood stayed hot from three-point range as Richard Rose hit one and Kramer Soderberg had a pair. Another field goal by Soderberg concluded the run and Lindenwood was in control for the rest of the contest.

For the game, Lindenwood shot 48.2 percent from the field and made 15 free throws, seven more than Baker. Thirty-six of the team's points came in the paint.

Soderberg led the Lions with 20 points, Rose had 13, and Brett Thompson finished with 12. Thompson led the team with eight rebounds and four assists. David King finished with eight points and six rebounds, and Alex Bazzell had nine points.

With the victory, Lindenwood improves to 7-1 on the season. The Lions have a key conference game coming up next when they travel to No. 22 Evangel on Thursday evening. Lindenwood and Evangel were picked one-two in the conference preseason conference poll.
