Lady Lions Fall to Yellowjackets in Overtime

For the second time this season the Lindenwood Lady Lions and the Graceland Yellowjackets couldn't settle the score in regulation and needed five extra minutes. The first time the Lady Lions were victorious but on Saturday Graceland got their payback and won, 80-78.

The first half was back-and-forth as the two teams traded the lead seven times. Late in the first Graceland started to gain a little momentum extending the lead up to as high as seven points and would go to the locker room at the half with a, 35-31 lead.

Trailing at the half the Lady Lions did not give into the Yellowjackets pressure. A 15-5 run gave Lindenwood a 51-47 lead with just over 12 minutes to play. The four point lead did not last long as the Yellowjackets came right back to the game at 62 with six minutes to play.

Lindenwood and Graceland would trade baskets until Abby Schultehenrich would connect on a layup to give the Lady Lions the lead with just over a minute to play in regulation. Lindenwood point guard Sade Adams had a chance to lock the game up at the free throw line with 22 seconds to go. She would miss the front end of the bonus and Graceland would take advantage of the miss and tie the game at 71 with just over 16 seconds to play in regulation. A last second jump shot by Christian Edwards fell just short as the game would go into overtime.

To start the extra time the Lady Lions went on a 7-2 run to take a five point lead with just over 30 seconds to play. Josilyn Wilkes would connect on a huge three pointer for Graceland to cut the Lindenwood lead to just two with 28 seconds to play. After Adams turned the ball over to Graceland, Edwards was called for a foul on Wilkes. She would connect on one of two free throws to cut the Lady Lion lead to one.

Graceland's Nya Pouk made one of the biggest plays of the game as she stole a Cassie William's pass to give the ball back to the Yellowjackets with just 10 seconds to play. Graceland took three shots and the final one finally found the bottom of the net to give the Yellowjackets their first lead in overtime and most importanty the lead when the clock reach zero.

Senior Gina Ferrer led the Lady Lions with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting from behind the arc. Edwards and Kelly Albers pitched in with double-doubles. Albers would score 10 points and grab 11 rebounds and Edwards scored 18 points to go along with 10 boards.
