The great start to the 2010 season for the Lindenwood baseball team continued this weekend with a three game sweep of the Bacone College Warriors. In game one of the weekend the Lions won 5-2, game two was a 10-0 shutout and on Sunday the Lindenwood once again won, 10-2.
In the opening game of the weekend, the Lions jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Senior Frank Corpus connected on his first home run of the season and would end the day going 1-for-1 with a run and four RBIs. Justin Lamar also had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Zach Malawey started for the Lions and pitched five innings, only surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out nine. The junior from Florissant went on to get his second win of the year.
Game two was all Lindenwood as the Lions dominated the Warriors, 10-0 in only five innings. Cody Anderson was the hitting star going 2-for-2 with two home runs and three RBIs. After getting the win in game one, Zach Malawey pinch hit and connected on a grand slam in the fifth inning.
Evan Vinyard started on the hill pitching all five innings and striking out 12. The win was the second of the year for Vinyard and he has already struck out 23 hitters in only 11 innings.
On Sunday, the Lions took care of the Warriors 10-2 to finish off the series sweep. Shelby Anderson continued his early season power surge with his fourth home run. Catcher Anthony Dallasto chipped in with three hits and two runs scored. On the mound Bryant Hollingsworth started and went eight strong innings striking out seven and only surrendering a pair of runs.
Up next the Lions will have their toughest challenge of the early season when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on the defending NAIA National Champions, Lubbock Christian.
