Baseball Looks to Continue Great Start

Storyline
After an opening weekend four game sweep of Faulkner and Auburn Mongomery the Lindenwood baseball team will be back on the road. This weeked the Lions will travel to Oklahoma to take on Bacone College of the Red River Athletic Conference.

The Lions and the Warriors will play a three game series starting with Saturday's double header. The two teams will conclude the weekend with a single game on Sunday. 

Last Week's Results
The 2010 season started off very well for the Lions as they swept a pair of double headers from Faulkner and the number 22nd ranked team in the country, Auburn Montgomery.

The weekend began with the Lions beating Faulkner in game one, 6-3. Shelby Anderson had a huge day at the plate going 2-for-4 with a pair of solo homeruns. Zach Malaway started on the hill and went the full seven innings while striking out 12 and surrendering only four hits.

In game two the Lions picked up right where they left off beating Faulkner, 4-1. Once again Anderson played a big role going 1-for-3 with a RBI. For the second straight game Lindenwood pitching struck out 12 hitters. Evan Vinyard went 6.1 striking out 11 and Jeff Wilkins came in to shut the door for his first save of the season. Vinyard and Wilkins only surrendered one hit.

Up next for the Lions was a two game series against #22 Auburn Montgomery. Lindenwood started off with a 4-3 win over the Senators. Lindenwood was led by Bryce Holland who was 1-for-2 with a RBI and a stolen base.

The weekend closed out with a 5-2 win. Lindenwood was led by third baseman Carlos Pianetta who went 2-for-3 at the plate with a RBI. Four pitchers combined on a six hitter while Jeff Wilkins notched his first win of the season

Streaking
Catcher Anthony Dallosto has began the season with a four game hitting streak. Two out of the four games he has had at least two hits.

Rankings
The 2009 season ended with the Lions being ranked 15th and at the start of the 2010 season they are ranked 12th which is the highest of any HAAC school.

Road Warriors
The Lions will begin their season with a long 15 game road trip away from the Lou Brock Sports Complex. The road has been kind so far for the team as they have began 4-0. During the 2009 campaign road games were very friendly to the Lions. The team would go 27-4 which was the best road record in the conference and one of the best in the country.

Stingy With Hits
During the four game sweep over the weekend, the opponents hit only .160 against the Lions pitching staff. 

Piling Up The Ks
In the first four games this season the Lion pitching staff has already struck out 27 hitters, including two games where they struck out 12 opponents in seven innings.
 
Going The Distance
The 2009 season saw the Lindenwood starting pitchers combined for nine complete games. Departed senior Kyle Boschert led the way with four. Already the pitching staff has one complete game by Zach Malaway.

Goin' Deep
In just fifteen at bats this season junior first baseman Shelby Anderson has already hit three homeruns. His first two bombs came in the first game of the season on consecutive at bats.

Swiping Bags
So far in 2010 the Lions have already compiled 10 stolen bases in just 13 attempts. Conversley opponents have only two stolen bases. Leading the way for the team is Bryce Holland who has four stolen bases in five attempts.

Scoring First
Getting on the scoreboard early has been very advantages for the Lions in the early part of the seaosn. In all four wins the squad has scored the first runs of the game. Two out of the four games the team has scored a run in the opening inning.

Returning All-HAAC
The Lions return three members of all-conference teams from last season. Frank Corpus was named to the first team and Cristobal Rodriguez (SS) and Justin Lamar (2B) were named to the honorable mention squad. Rodriguez hit .301 and Lamar hit .372 in 2009.

HAAC Champs
For the second consecutive year the Lions were the HAAC Champs. In 2009 they complied a 32-8 conference record and also won four straight games in the conference tournament to be crowned the tourney champs.

Starting Off Well

In 21 doubleheaders last season the Lions were 18-3 in the first game. Against non-conference opponents the team was 4-0 in game ones. That trend has moved right into the current season. The team is 2-0 in game ones.

Scouting Bacone

This weekend's games for Bacone will be the first for the Warriors in 2010. The Bacone College Warriors compete in the Red River Athletic Conference and finished the 2008-09 season with an overall record of 29-20 and a conference mark of 10-6. The team finished in fourth place in conference and are looking to improve on that this season.

Leading the way for the Warriors is senior pitcher Joseph Zrinko who averaged 11.08 strikouts every nine innings. His 110 total strikeouts was the six th most in the country.

 After a three game road series in Oklahoma the Lions will embark on their biggest road trip of the season. The team will trael to Lubbock, Texas to take on the defending NAIA National Champions, Lubbock Christian.
