Lindenwood's defense helped the Lions overcome a slow offensive start during the team's 62-49 victory over Benedictine on Saturday afternoon at the Hyland Performance Arena.
Lindenwood shot under 40 percent and turned the ball over nine times in the first half. The Lions only trailed 24-22 at halftime though as Benedictine also shot under 40 percent from the field and had nine turnovers.
The second half of play was all Lions, starting with a 9-0 run to start the period when four different players connected on the team's first four field goal attempts. Lindenwood's defense continued to frustrate the Ravens, as they made just nine-of-29 shots in the final 20 minutes and were outrebounded by the Lions by a 23-10 margin. The Lindenwood offense meanwhile shot nearly 60 percent from the field as it led by as much as 18 points at one point.
The post duo of
Brett Thompson and
Toriano Adams dominated Benedictine as they combined to make 17-of-26 shots, score 38 points and grab 26 rebounds. Thompson hit 10-of-15 and had season-highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds. Adams made seven-of-11 from the field and had a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Those two also helped frustrate Benedictine's Chris Bonham, who came into the game averaging a double-double. Bonham finished with zero points and one rebound in 21 minutes of playing time.
Joey Parker finished with 10 points and had a team-high three assists.
Shane Williams had an all-around line of six points, four rebounds, two steals and one block.
David King had a team-high three blocks.
Lindenwood improves to 16-8 on the year and 8-6 in HAAC action. The Lions have now won nine of 10 games this season on its home court.
