The Lindenwood softball team proved to be too much for the visiting Avila Tuesday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lady Lions swept the Lady Eagles by scores of 3-1 and 16-0.
In game one, Lindenwood got on the board first when
Sophia Galati singled home
Samantha Van Pelt. Galati would push the lead to 2-0 in the fifth with a base knock that scored Van Pelt once again. Galati would steal second to move into scoring position, and
Danielle Merli brought her home with a base hit to right field.
The Lady Eagles picked up a run off Lindenwood starter
Cassondra VanDyke in the sixth, but never threatened again.
VanDyke improved to 3-0 on the year working seven innings of five-hit ball while striking out four.
Aubrey Moss struck out the first seven batters she faced and the Lions erupted for 16 runs in a game two shutout victory.
Moss finished with a one-hitter and nine strikeouts in five innings of work to even her record at 3-3. The Lions picked up seven runs in the second, five in the third, and four more in the fourth.
Sophie Berman posted two hits and three RBIs, and Van Pelt added two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Merli collected three RBIs and
Bailee Winkler had two hits and a RBI as well.
Lindenwood (12-10, 6-2) will wrap up its homestand this Thursday against William Jewell.
