Softball Finishes 2-2 at Belhaven Elite Tournament

The Lindenwood softball team wrapped up a 2-2 record at the Belhaven Elite Tournament in Ridgeland, Miss. this past weekend. The Lady Lions won a pair of games against LSU-Alexandria, but fell to Belhaven and Christian Brothers.

After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead against Christian Brothers, the Lady Lions surrendered seven runs in the next three innings and lost 8-3 on Saturday. Three costly errors doomed the team and starting pitcher Aubrey Moss. Moss went six innings, giving up eight runs, three earned on 13 hits. She walked three and struck out two. Jessica Long finished with a pair of hits and RBI.

Lindenwood rebounded with a 6-0 shutout of LSU-Alexandria, its second win against the Lady Generals in as many days.

Heidi Schertzer pitched seven scoreless innings, scattering four hits and striking out nine to pick up her second win of the year.

Long drove in pair of runs and Jacqueline Riordan went 3-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Jodi Urhahn added a two hits and two RBI as well.

In her first collegiate start, Cassondra VanDyke struggled early, surrendering a three-run homerun in the first inning. However, the freshman pitcher would settle down from there and propel the Lady Lions to a 6-3 win over LSU-Alexandria on Friday afternoon.

Lindenwood got on the board in the second inning, and erupted for four runs in the third before adding another tally in the fourth to cap the scoring.

Urhahn had a pair of RBI and Macy Bross scored twice for Lindenwood. VanDyke went the distance, striking out seven.

Belhaven scored five runs in the fifth to earn a come from behind 6-2 victory over Lindenwood. Lady Lion hitters were limited to four hits in the contest and left eight runners stranded on base.

Rebecca Peddicord took the loss, giving up five earned runs on eight hits in four innings. Sophie Berman had a run scored and stolen base in defeat.

Lindenwood (4-4) will return to St. Charles next weekend for the start of a 20 game homestand. The Lady Lions will host Columbia College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
