The Lindenwood softball team found its bats in game two of its doubleheader with NCAA Division II Maryville which helped the Lady Lions split with the Saints. After losing game one by a 4-1 score, the Lady Lions took game two by a 13-1 margin.
In the second game, all nine starters recorded at least one hit and one run in the contest which was stopped after five innings. Lindenwood scored two times in the second inning, four times in the third, and seven times in the fourth.
Jessica Long led the offensive onslaught with two hits, two runs and three RBIs.
Sophia Galati and
Chelsea Landeck each had two hits and two runs, and
Danielle Merli scored twice.
Miranda Schlosser and
Samantha Van Pelt had two RBIs apiece.
The offense helped
Rebecca Peddicord earn the win on the mound. She allowed three hits, one run, and one walk, and struck out two.
In game one, Lindenwood took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Katie Wessel opened the inning with a double and scored one batter later on a single by
Emily Johnson. Maryville responded with a two-run double in the fourth, and then added two insurance runs in the sixth.
The Lady Lions scattered six hits between six different batters.
Heidi Schertzer took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Aubrey Moss got the final five outs and did not allow a hit or run.
The game was Senior Night for Lindenwood as the Lady Lions honored their five seniors Merli, Hannah Kenney, Van Pelt,
Caitlin Diesen, and Wessel.
Lindenwood goes to 28-18 on the season. The Lady Lions can be crowned HAAC co-champions on Saturday if they can get a doubleheader sweep in a road series at Missouri Valley.
