Storyline
The Lindenwood Lions are down to their final six games of the regular season. The week will start with the team's final conference series on the road in Canton, Mo. against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats. The Wildcats come into the weekend series against the Lions with a record of 19-22 and a 10-14 mark in conference play.

Lindenwood needs to sweep the Wildcats and hope for some help around the conference to have a chance for the regular-season conference title.

Before the Lions begin the HAAC tournament they will close out the 2010 regular season schedule with a doubleheader against visiting Iowa Wesleyan. The Tigers will come to St. Charles with an overall record of 20-21 and a conference mark of 11-17 in the MCC.

Last Week's Results
The Lindenwood baseball team had a week off from conference play so the Lions traveled to Davenport, Iowa to take on non-conference foe, St. Ambrose.

As they have all year the Lions jumped out early scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, capped off by Frank Corpus' two-run home run which scored Shelby Anderson.

After giving up a pair of runs in the top of the first, the Bees came right back in the bottom of the first and scored one run on three hits.

Both starters would settle in nicely and it wasn't until the fourth inning that either team would score a run. The Lions would lead off the fourth with an Anderson single then for the second time in the game Corpus would drive him in to give the Lions the 3-1 lead.

Lindenwood would score three more runs in the seventh inning and that is all it would need as the Lions rolled to a 6-1 win.

The second game of the weekend series saw the Lions trail 1-0 early after St. Ambrose scored a single tally in the second inning. It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Lions got on the scoreboard to tie the game.

With the game tied at one, Lindenwood's Shelby Anderson and Frank Corpus would each drive in a run to give the visitors the lead.

Starter Zach Malawey would surrender a run in the second but would not let the Bees cross the plate again as the Lions held on for a 3-1 win.

After falling behind the Bees 3-0 after the first three innings in the final game of the series the Lions would go into the final inning needing three runs to tie. Lindenwood would send across two but could not get the game-tying hit with two outs in the final inning. The Lions would fail to sweep the Bees after the 3-2 loss.

Closing The Lead
When the Lions hold the lead after the sixth inning they don't give it up too often. In 36 games this season they have only lost two games and hold a record of 34-2.

Going The Distance
This season the team has 10 complete games. Zach Malawey leads the team with five, while Evan Vinyard, Randy Serrato each have two and Andy Tretter has one. A year ago the Lions compiled nine complete games.

Scoring Early
Scoring in the first inning has been very productive for the Lions this season. When the team scores in the first inning the team is 19-3. They have out-scored their opponents 41-14 in first innings.

Shelby The Leader
Shelby Anderson has been an offensive threat all year and continues to the lead the Lions in numerous categories. The junior from Quincy, Illinois is number one on the team in home runs (10), RBIs (41), runs scored (41), batting average (.360), games played (48), at-bats (150), hits (54) and total bases (95).

Dynamic Duo
The duo of starting pitchers Evan Vinyard and Zach Malawey is one of the best one-two punches in the conference on the hill. Vinyard leads the conference in strikeouts (88), hits allowed per nine innings (7.52), innings pitched (67), opponents batting average (.226), and wins (8). Malawey would be leading many of the same categories if it wasn't for his teammate. The junior is tied for first with Vinyard with eight wins, is in second place in strikeouts (74), innings pitched (64.2), and has four complete games.

Streaking
During the season the Lions have compiled 15 hitting streaks of at least four games. Leading the way is Shelby Anderson who just ended a 14 game streak. Currently Justin Lamar is in the middle of a seven game streak.

Errorless Baseball
When the team has committed one or no errors they are 29-5. On the contrary if they commit two or more they have a record of 6-8.

Piling Up The Ks
Lindenwood pitchers have been striking out hitters at a high rate this season. As a staff they have struck out 305 which is the most in the HAAC and   most in all of the country. The Lions have rung up over 60 more hitters than William Jewell who is in second place in the conference.

Dual Threats
Not only have Randy Serrato and Zach Malawey been strong on the hill but the two have been huge threats at the plate. Malawey is hitting .333 and has hit six home runs with 14 RBIs. Serrato, though he has not had as many at-bats, is hitting .435 (10-for-23).

Up Next
With the regular season over, the Lions will prepare for the HAAC Tournament which will take place on May 5-8 in St. Joseph's, Mo.
