Lady Lions Will Host Baker in First Round of HAAC Tournament

Storyline
Lindenwood earned the No. 1 seed in the HAAC postseason tournament this past week after sweeping Missouri Valley to capture the conference's regular season championship. The title marked the fourth in program history and the first since 2002. 

The Lady Lions posted a 17-3 record against league opponents in 2010, and went 18-2 over their final 20 games of the regular season. 

Lindenwood will host Baker in the opening round beginning Friday. It will be a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to face the winner of the Central Methodist and William Jewell series.

Last Week's Results
Lindenwood went 3-1 in its final week of the regular season, splitting with Maryville and taking two from Missouri Valley. 

After falling 4-1 in game one against Maryville, the Lady Lions responded in a big way in game two, erupting for 13 runs in a 13-1 win. 

Jessica Long drove in three runs, and Miranda Schlosser and Samantha Van Pelt each collected two RBIs apiece. 

Rebecca Peddicord limited the Saints to three hits and struck out two. 

Once the rain was willing to cooperate, the Lady Lions took the field against Missouri Valley. 

Aubrey Moss pitched Lindenwood to a 5-1 victory in game one, losing her bid for a perfect game in the seventh inning. 

She struck out five, issuing one walk and an RBI double. 

Sophia Galati smashed two solo home runs to lead the team offensively. 

In game two, Rebecca Peddicord blanked the Vikings 5-0.  She scattered seven hits and logged five strikeouts. 

Galati connected on her third home run of the day, and Danielle Merli belted her first round tripper of the season to provide the run support. Merli also added an RBI double.

Power Hitter
Sophia Galati collected three more home runs this past week to give her a team-leading nine. 

She has five in her last six games, and eight of her blasts have come in conference play, which is tops in the HAAC. 

Galati also leads the team in RBIs (28) and slugging percentage (.626), and is tied for first in hits with 39.

Home Cooking
Lindenwood will have home field advantage throughout the postseason tournament. The Lady Lions were 17-9 in St. Charles this year, and 10-2 against HAAC opponents. 

At home, the team is averaging 5.1 runs compared to 3.5 on the road.

Teeing Off
Lindenwood batters have feasted on HAAC pitching. Lady Lion hitters are batting .326 and the team is averaging 5.7 runs per game, compared to hitting .282 and scoring 4.1 runs in non-conference games.

Finishing Strong
Lindenwood finished the regular season on a tear, winning 18 of its final 20 games.
During that stretch, the team averaged 5.3 runs per game, and hit .322 as a unit. 

On the mound, Lindenwood pitchers posted an ERA of 1.30 with 123 strikeouts in 135 innings of work.

Clutch Hitting
Lindenwood is hitting .314 with runners in scoring position this year, and have 82 two-out RBIs.

Hitting Streaks
Samantha Van Pelt is currently on a 14-game hitting streak, which is the longest streak by any Lady Lion this year. Kimberly Ruth has also collected a hit in ten straight games.

Slick Fielding
Lindenwood ranks eighth in the NAIA in fielding percentage with a mark of .969. That mark is also tops in the conference.

Highway Robbery
The Lady Lions have swiped 72 bases this year, which ranks 31st in the nation and third in the HAAC. 

Dominant Pitching
Against HAAC competition, Lindenwood pitchers have compiled an ERA of 1.92, the third best mark in the conference. More impressive, Lady Lion pitchers rank third in innings pitched with an average of 6.75.

Earlier This Year
Lindenwood swept Baker earlier this year in St. Charles. 

Heidi Schertzer surrender three hits in a 6-0 victory in game one, and Jodi Urhahn drove in three runs on two hits. 

Jessica Long powered the Lady Lions to a 6-2 win in game two. She belted a two-run clout, and drove in two more runs with a RBI double.

Scouting Baker
The Wildcats are stumbling into the conference postseason tournament with only one win in its last six games. Baker compiled a record of 7-13 against HAAC opponents this year. 

Offensively, the Wildcats are averaging 2.6 runs per game, compared to their opponents who are averaging 5.2 runs per contest. 

Katie Worley is the top offensive threat. She leads the team in home runs (4), doubles (6), slugging percentage (.443), and RBIs (22). Brooke Allen has collected a team-high 53 hits while hitting .349. She leads the team in runs scored with 24. 

On the mound, Baker has posted an ERA of 4.61 against opponents. Heather Gruber has logged a team-best 183.2 innings pitched, and has accounted for 14 of the team's 17 wins.
