Storyline
After failing to record a victory on it's Spring Break trip, the Lindenwood softball team snapped out of its slump this past weekend, sweeping Harris-Stowe.
The Lady Lions will resume conference play this week against Culver-Stockton and William Jewell. With 12 HAAC games remaining on its schedule, Lindenwood finds itself one game out of first place.
The team will wrap up the week competing at the McKendree Lady Bearcat tournament.
Last Week's Results
Lindenwood finished with a record of 2-2 last week.
The team was swept by Central Baptist to open the week. The Lady Lions lost both games by a score of 8-0.
Central Baptist connected on five homeruns in the two games and allowed just seven Lindenwood hits.
The Lady Lions returned home to host Harris-Stowe to close out the week.
Rebecca Peddicord limited the Lady Hornets to one run on four hits in her best outing of the year.
Caitlin Diesen collected a pair of RBIs and
Miranda Schlosser also drove in a run to fuel the Lindenwood offense.
Aubrey Moss pitched her second one-hitter in the last 12 days to shut out Harris-Stowe 3-0 in game two.
She faced two batters above the minimum, and struck out six to improve her record to 4-6.
Sophia Galati,
Sam Van Pelt, and Diesen each collected a hit and drove in a run in the win.
King of the Hill
Junior pitcher
Aubrey Moss has turned it on as of late when she takes the mound.
Excluding her start against Central Baptist, Moss has posted a 1.17 ERA in her last four starts. She has surrendered only four earned runs during that stretch, and has tossed two complete game one-hitters.
She leads the team in strikeouts with 73 and is second with a 2.89 ERA.
Consistent Production
Senior
Caitlin Diesen has improved tremendously in her second full season as the Lady Lions' starting first basemen. She leads the team with a .380 batting average after hitting .231 last year, and has already equaled her RBI production from 2009 with 11 runs driven in this season.
Stark Contrast
Lindenwood should be looking forward to facing opposing HAAC pitchers this week. The Lady Lions are hitting .350 in conference play, second only to MidAmerica Nazarene, and are averaging 7.4 runs per game in league play. In non-conference games, the team is hitting just .255 and scoring 3.7 runs per contest.
Shaving Runs Off
Lady Lion pitchers have also had better success against HAAC teams than compared to non-conference opponents. Lindenwood pitchers have complied a 2.77 ERA in HAAC games compared to 3.26 versus non-league opponents.
Missing Bats
Lindenwood ranks among the top 50 schools in the nation in batters struck out per game with a 5.6 average. The mark is good for third best in the conference.
Aubrey Moss individually ranks 49th in the nation in batters struck out per nine innings with an 10.1 average.
Running Into Trouble
In its first 15 games of the season, Lindenwood recorded 29 stolen bases. In the 15 games since, the Lady Lions have tallied just ten thefts.
Close Calls
Lindenwood is just 1-4 in games decided by one run. Two of the losses have come in extra innings to Columbia and Spring Hill. In game decided by two runs or less, the team is 3-6.
Slick Fielding
Lindenwood ranks 17th in the country in fielding percentage with a .964 average. That mark is also tops in the conference.
Road Blues
The Lady Lions are 0-7 this year when playing on the road. Lindenwood was 13-19 on the road in 2009.
Scouting Culver-Stockton
Culver-Stockton is just 1-5 in its last six games, and is only 5-17 on the year.
The Lady Wildcats are led by Danielle Kaltmayer who is tops on the team in homeruns (4) and RBIs (12). Katelin Goddard leads the team in batting average with a mark of .317, and stolen bases with five.
Three or more players have six or more RBIs on the season.
On the mound, Katie Thomas is the team's ace, having pitched 92.1 innings this year. She has been the unfortunate bearer of little run support, compiling a record of 3-11 with a 2.96 earned run average.
Culver-Stockton is lead by fourth year coach Rich Meyer.
Scouting William Jewell
William Jewell has caught fire of late, winning four of its last six games. All four wins have come in conference play.
The Cardinals feature a balanced offensive lineup. Five players have driven in 10 or more runs on the year. Amanda Storm has a posted a team-high 15 RBIs. Megan Watkins has connected on a team-best three homeruns. Kaylee Lence owns a .357 batting average, tops on the squad.
Storm is the Cardinals' top pitcher. She is 6-7 on the year with a 3.02 ERA. She has struck out 76 batters in 2010.
