Lady Lions Softball Stays In The Conference Title Hunt With Sweep Over William Jewell

Jodi Urhahn's Walk-Off Hit (Video)

The Lindenwood softball team remains in the race for the conference championship after the Lady Lions pushed their HAAC winning streak to 10 games on Thursday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. Lindenwood swept the visiting Cardinals of William Jewell by scores of 1-0 and 5-1.

The Lady Lions' pitching dominated William Jewell hitters on the day. The Cardinals managed just four hits in 45 at-bats for a batting average under .100. Lindenwood pitchers Aubrey Moss and Heidi Schertzer combined to strike out 16 batters and walk just one.

The first game was a pitcher's duel by both starters. Moss threw a one-hitter for Lindenwood, striking out 10 and walking just one. She allowed just two batters over the minimum on a third inning single and a fourth inning walk. After that walk, she retired the final 11 batters that came up.

Lindenwood couldn't do much better until the seventh inning when Sophie Berman led off the inning with a walk. With one out, Berman was out on a fielder's choice and she was replaced on the bases by Miranda Schlosser. Jodi Urhahn then hit a double just inside the left field line and Schlosser was able to come around to score the only run of the game.

In the second game, Lindenwood gave Schertzer plenty of breathing room with four runs in the second inning. The Lady Lions were helped by an error and fielding mistake by the Cardinals, which led to three unearned runs. The big hit was a two-run single by Danielle Merli with two outs.

William Jewell scored its only run in the third on a single, wild pitch and another single, all with two outs. Schertzer only allowed one hit the rest of the way and she finished her complete game with six strikeouts.

Urhahn was the offensive star of the day. She was five-for-six batting with two RBIs and a run. Berman had three hits and Merli added two in the game.

Lindenwood improves to 10-2 in conference play and 18-16 overall on the season. The Lady Lions will compete in the McKendree Tournament tomorrow and Sunday with four non-conference games scheduled at that event.
