The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team continued its winning streak on Saturday afternoon with a 69-51 win over visiting MidAmerica Nazarene. The win was the fifth in a row for the Lady Lions.
To start the game, the teams traded the lead until the 14 minute mark when Lindenwood grabbed a 10-9 lead and it would never relinquish it. The lead grew to as many as seven and the home team went into the locker room holding a six point lead.
The second half started with the Lady Lions extending the lead to nine, but MidAmerica went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to four. That was as close as the Pioneers would get. Lindenwood extended the lead all the way up to 17 with the help of a 19-6 run.
Lindenwood dominated the play in the paint, outscoring the Pioneers 38-20, and also recorded four more rebounds. The Lady Lions defense stifled the Pioneers all day. MidAmerica turned the ball over 20 times and shot just 30 percent from the field. The Lady Lions also compiled 12 steals.
For the fifth straight game, Morgan Harrington led the team in scoring with 17 points. Kelly Albers scored 12 points and led the team in rebounds with six. Abby Schultenhenrich and Christina Edwards pitched in with 10 points apiece. Sarah Schnieders and Marissa Lehnig led the team in steals with three.
With the win the Lady Lions improve to 10-6 overall and 6-2 in the HAAC. Up next for the Lady Lions will be a non-conference game against St. Louis College of Pharmacy Thursday night.
