Lady Lions Dominate Culver-Stockton From the Opening Tip

The Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped last Monday night, but the team started another streak Thursday night after an 81-53 win over Culver-Stockton in Canton, Mo.

The game was dominated by the Lady Lions from the opening tip. Lindenwood took a double-digit lead with just over eight minutes to play in the first half. Before the half would end, the visitors extended the lead to as many as 20, before taking a 19-point lead into the break.

The second half was much of the same after the Lady Lions went on a 21-8 run to start the half which extended the lead to 33. The lead grew to as many as 39 but the Wildcats closed the game with an 11-0 run to cut the final margin to 28.

Lindenwood never trailed in the game and the closest the Wildcats got was when the score was 4-4 just three minutes into the game. The Lady Lions dominated the play in the paint, outscoring Culver-Stockton 30-18. For the game, the Lady Lions shot 43 percent from the field and had their best night from behind the arc, connecting on six of nine attempts. Lindenwood also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Culver-Stockton 34-21.

Four Lady Lions scored in double-figures led by Kelly Albers, who scored a game-high 12 points. Abby Schultenhenrich and Christina Edwards both scored 11 and Edwards also led the team in rebounding with nine. Morgan Harrington pitched in with 10 points on three of four shooting, including two for two from behind the three point line. Harrington also led the team in assists with four.

With the win the Lady Lions improved their overall record to 12-7 and their HAAC mark to 8-3. It will be a quick turnaround for the Lady Lions, because they will be back in action Saturday afternoon against the Baker Wildcats, who beat Lindenwood earlier in the season. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m. at the Hyland Arena.
