The Lindenwood men's basketball team clinched its second straight 20-win season on Saturday with a 77-50 win over Baker. It marks just the second time in program history that the Lions have back-to-back 20-win campaigns.
Lindenwood's defense held its third straight opponent to 55 points or less. Baker shot just 34.5 percent from the field and turned the ball over 15 times. The best stretch of defense by the Lions came in the first half when they allowed just one field goal during a 10 minute period. During that time, Lindenwood went on a 26-3 run and took a 34-13 lead. The Wildcats never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
The offense was led by its perimeter game as 13 of Lindenwood's 28 field goals came from three-point range. The Lions shot 54.2 percent from beyond the arc and six different players made at least one three-pointer.
Michael Boos and
Richard Rose connected on three three-pointers apiece. Boos finished with 14 points and Rose had 10.
Alex Bazzell,
Kramer Soderberg, and
Brandon Kunkel all had two three-pointers. Bazzell finished with a team-high 16 points while Soderberg had 12. Both players led the team with four assists and Soderberg had a team-high three steals. Kunkel had eight points, his best performance of 2011. On the boards,
Brett Thompson had a game-high 11 rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. He chipped in six points as well, the most by a post player.
Lindenwood improves to 20-2 on the season and 11-1 in conference play. The Lions are off until next Thursday when they host Evangel, one of the teams close behind in the conference standings.
