After almost a month off, the Lindenwood Lady Lions basketball team was back on its home court Thursday night. The Lady Lions did not show any rust beating the visiting Missouri Valley Vikings 74-64.
The Vikings started the contest taking a five point lead, but the Lady Lions would trim it to two with just over 13 minutes to play in the first half. Christina Edwards connected on a layup with 11 minutes to play to give the Lady Lions a one point lead and the home team would never give the lead back. The first half came to end with Lindenwood holding a 35-31 lead.
Both teams came out of the locker room missing their first three shots but the Lady Lions once again started to find the bottom of the net. The lead would expand to seven with over nine minutes to play. Missouri Valley would cut the lead down to four, but some clutch free throw shooting down the stretch helped the Lady Lions hold on for the win.
Morgan Harrington led the way for the Lady Lions scoring a career-high 27 points on six of 16 shooting and 14 of 17 from the free throw line. Sarah Schnieders chipped in with 15 and Kelly Albers recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Lions shot 43 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free throw line. Lindenwood's defense held the Vikings offense to just 32 percent shooting from the field and 28 percent from behind the three point line.
With the win, the Lady Lions improve their overall record to 6-6 and 2-2 in HAAC play. Next up for Lindenwood is a road game at Graceland Saturday afternoon.
