Kramer Soderberg hit a last second shot to give the Lindenwood men's basketball team an 86-84 victory over Graceland on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Lions are now the only undefeated team in Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) play.
Soderberg's heroics saved Lindenwood after it nearly blew a 12-point lead in the final three minutes. Graceland hit three straight three-pointers to get within 80-77, and then tied the game with a three-point play with 22 seconds remaining. The Lions played for the final shot and Soderberg hit a jumper from the charity stripe to give Lindenwood a road victory.
The game was a shootout from the start as both teams finished the game shooting around the 60 percent mark. The Lions were 60.4 percent from the field and hit 13 of 25 from three-point range. The Yellowjackets shot 58.5 percent from the field and hit 12 of 17 from long distance.
Lindenwood jumped out to a 48-36 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game. Ten of the team's three-pointers came in that period, including five from
Richard Rose and three from Soderberg. Rose finished the half with 19 points, and Soderberg had 15.
The Lions kept that double digit lead for the first 14 minutes of the second half. Graceland scored 22 points though in the final 5:16 of the game to make the game more exciting than Lindenwood had hoped for.
Soderberg finished the game with 27 points, two more than Rose. Soderberg was nine of 15 from the field and six of six from the free throw line. Rose finished with seven three-pointers and was nine of 13 from the field.
Alex Bazzell had 14 points and a team-high five assists.
Alfred Nelson was perfect shooting with four field goals, including one three pointer, and two free throws for 11 points.
David King and
Brett Thompson each tied for the team-high with four rebounds.
Lindenwood, which is now 5-0 in conference action, took over sole possession of first place in the HAAC after Benedictine suffered its first conference loss at Evangel. The Lions won their 13th straight game overall and they are now 14-1 at the midpoint of their regular season.
