The Lindenwood women's basketball team picked up its first HAAC road victory of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 60-54 win at Graceland.
The Lady Lions won with defense as they held the Yellowjackets to just 30 percent shooting from the field, including 25 percent from three-point range. Lindenwood also won the rebounding battle by four boards and it forced 20 turnovers.
Offensively, Lindenwood shot 50 percent from the field. The Lady Lions only shot 55.6 percent from the free throw line, but attempted 36 free throws to give them an advantage there as well.
The first half was close throughout with the largest lead being a 10-5 lead for the Lady Lions early on. Lindenwood went on an 8-5 run in the final two minutes to take a 27-24 lead into halftime.
Shantey Hibbler had six of Lindenwood's points in that spurt.
Lindenwood increased that lead to eight early in the second half at 36-28, but Graceland answered with an 11-2 run to take its only lead of the half.
Morgan Harrington took the game over for the Lady Lions after that. She hit a three-pointer to give Lindenwood the lead back and then put the team ahead for good with a three-point play to break a 41-41 tie. She ended up scoring 14 points in the final 11 minutes, including six free throws to help the team seal the victory in the final minutes.
Harrington finished the game with 22 points, her second straight game with over 20 points. Hibbler added 11 points after making all four field goals she attempted, and she also had seven rebounds.
Sarah Schnieders was also in double-figures with 10 points, and
Kelly Albers just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Lindenwood improves to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Lady Lions continue their road trip on Monday at Avila.
