The Lindenwood Lady Lions made their Senior Game a success by getting their first win of the season against Hendrix on Saturday night at Hunter Stadium.
The two teams played to a stalemate in regulation with the Lady Lions maintaining a 7-4 advantage in shots, and an 11-9 advantage for penalty corners. Both defenses showed resilience throughout the entire game.
Lindenwood dominated the first overtime period, outshooting the Warriors 6-4 and holding the advantage in penalty corners by a 7-2 margin.
In the shootout, Lindenwood was down 1-0 after the Warriors' second shooter scored. But the Lady Lions proceed to rattle off three consecutive scores by
Ana Maria Llosa,
Kundai Nangati, and
Erin de Jesus, while
Samantha Brown came up big with two saves to help the Lady Lions earn the victory.
Overall, the Lady Lions led Hendrix in both shots and penalty corners, 13-8 and 18-11, respectively. Brown got the start in goal for Lindenwood, making five saves and preserved the shutout to keep her team alive in the game.
With the win, the Lady Lions improve their record to 1-9 on the season. Lindenwood will return to action next Saturday when it hosts Missouri State at Hunter Stadium.
