The Lindenwood men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against NCAA Division II Truman State on Saturday afternoon for their home opener at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. The men defeated the Bulldogs 162-59, while the women fell 124-99.
Javier Hernandez and
Uba Zavaleta led the men's side finishing first in two separate events. Hernandez won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly, and Zavaleta recorded first-place victories in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles.
Diego Banda and
Ivars Akmentins recorded a first-place and second-place finish, respectively, in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle.
Ramunas Paknys and
Ivan Potkonjak also had first and second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke.
Other Lions who finished high were
Cody Friedhoff, who finished second in the 200 yard freestyle, and
Gilad Brunfman, who placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 200-yard individual medley. Three Lions also finished as the top seeds in the 100-yard backstroke.
The men's team also had success in relay competition where it finished as the top seeds in the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays as well as the 200-yard medley relay.
On the women's side,
Stephanie Heutel placed first in the 200-yard freestyle while
Kelsey Hutton came in third.
Sarah Billiamosa also had a big day where she finished on top of the podium in the 100-yard butterfly with
Storrie Cramer finishing third, respectively. Three Lady Lions finished in the top five in the 50-yard freestyle with
Mackenzie Porter in second,
Ashlan Higgins in third, and
Tiffany Oskvarek in fifth. The women placed first in the relays in the 200-yard freestyle.
The swimming and diving program will host the Lindenwood Triangular on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the St. Peter's Rec-Plex. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
