The Lindenwood men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up a successful weekend Sunday as they competed in a three-day meet at the University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic. The men's team had a first place finish out of nine teams while the women's team finished third out of 10 programs.
The men's team achieved their highest finish of the year posting a first place victory against nine different programs. Leading the way for the Lions was
Javier Hernandez who placed first in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly races.
Ramunas Paknys posted a first place finish in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, respectively.
Other Lions included
Uba Zavaleta, who had a second place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle as well as the 400-yard individual medley.
Gilad Brunfman placed second in the 200-yard individual medley and second in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly.
Yannis Chader finished third in the 100-yard butterfly while
Cody Friedhoff posted third in the 100 and 500-yard freestyle. The men tallied a point total of 770 for the weekend.
The women's team was also successful placing third in a competitive 10-team meet. Briana Priess and
Sarah Billiamosa led the Lady Lions with Priess achieving a first place finish in the 200-yard backstroke while Billiamosa recorded first in the 200-yard individual medley and second in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Lady Lions were also successful in relays as they finished third in the 200-yard medley relay as well as the 400 and 800-yard freestyle relay. Lindenwood also posted a fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Point total for the Lady Lions added up 434 for a third place finish behind Truman State and host, University of Chicago.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams conclude the 2011 calendar with this meet and will be back in action on Jan. 13-14 at the Washington Invitational in St. Louis.
