The Lindenwood field hockey team failed to hang onto a 2-0 first-half lead, falling to Limestone College 3-2 in the second overtime period in Newport News, Virginia on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Lions got off to a great start, with
Kundai Musarurwa scoring in the 28th minute.
Lynsey Porter followed that up with a goal of her own in the 33rd minute to send Lindenwood into the halftime break up 2-0.
About midway through the second half, Limestone began its comeback, as Sara Parker scored her fifth goal of the season. In the 67th minute, Bernice Jere netted her fifth goal of the season as well, and the game was knotted up at 2-2 at the end of regulation.
The first overtime period was scoreless, with Limestone outshooting the Lady Lions 5-1. The Saints carried that momentum into the second overtime period, as Parker scored the game-winning goal in the 99th minute.
Samantha Brown played the entire 100-minute game in goal for Lindenwood, making nine saves. Overall for the match, Limestone outshot Lindenwood 21-10, but the Lady Lions held a 14-9 advantage in penalty corners.
With the loss, Lindenwood drops to 1-13 on the season. The Lady Lions will play their final match of the season on Sunday afternoon when they face Liberty in Newport News, Virginia.
